WHEN: 11 a.m. on Friday, June 22 WHERE: Room 142 of the Washington Convention Center, 801 Mount Vernon Place, N.W., Washington, D.C. Launched in 2006, the “Lifelong Literacy” campaign aims to reach children in the fourth through sixth grades and their parents in an effort to inspire a love of reading. Since 2001, the Library and the Advertising Council have partnered in creating PSA campaigns encouraging learning, particularly through use of the Library’s online resources. The 2007 National Book Festival, featuring more than 70 award-winning authors, takes place, rain or shine, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the National Mall between 7th and 14th streets. Each year, thousands of booklovers of all ages come to celebrate the joys of reading and lifelong literacy at the festival, sponsored by the Library and hosted by First Lady Laura Bush. Now in its seventh year, this free event allows readers to interact with the nation's best-selling authors, illustrators and poets.
