On Thursday, March 29, the Great Hall, exhibitions and Sales Shop in the Thomas Jefferson Building of the Library of Congress will be closed to the public beginning at noon.
Previously scheduled and reserved tour groups will be admitted for their tours. There will be no public tours after the 11:30 a.m. tour.
Researchers will have normal access to all Jefferson Building reading rooms. They may enter the building either via the Southeast entrance or via the tunnels from the John Adams and James Madison Memorial buildings. Readers may exit the building via the Northeast doors or the building tunnels. The Carriage Entrance on the West Front Drive and the Southeast Door will be available for persons with disabilities. All building exits will be available for use in the event of an emergency.
Signs will be posted outside the Library’s Jefferson, Adams and Madison buildings informing readers of the closing and directing them on the best way to enter the Jefferson Building. Once in the Jefferson Building, signs will direct staff and readers to the reading rooms they wish to use.
Normal access to the Great Hall and all other sections of the Jefferson Building will resume on Friday, March 30.
We regret any inconvenience that this may cause our visitors and researchers.
