Public access to the Thomas Jefferson Building of the Library of Congress will be limited on two dates in September. Friday, Sept. 14 On Friday, Sept. 14, the Great Hall, exhibitions and Sales Shop in the Thomas Jefferson Building of the Library of Congress will be temporarily closed to the public from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Public Tours will be offered that morning only at 10:30 and 11:30 a.m. There will be no tours after the 11:30 a.m. tour. The West Basement/Carriage entrance will be closed to visitors. However, the entrance will be available to researchers, staff and persons with disabilities who may have access to the various reading rooms within the Jefferson Building. All building exits will be available for use in the event of an emergency. The Congressional Reading Room will remain open to members of Congress and congressional staff members. Normal access to the Great Hall and all other sections of the Jefferson Building will resume at 4 p.m. on Sept. 14. Friday, Sept. 28 On Friday, Sept. 28, the Great Hall, exhibitions and Sales Shop in the Thomas Jefferson Building of the Library of Congress will be closed all day. Previously scheduled and reserved tour groups will be admitted for their tours. constituent tour groups and reserved tour groups will be admitted between 8:30 a.m. and 10 a.m. only. There will be no additional public tours after the 10 a.m. tour. Researchers will have normal access to all Jefferson Building reading rooms. They may enter the building either via the Southeast entrance or via the tunnels from the John Adams and James Madison Memorial buildings. Readers may exit the building via the Northeast doors or the building tunnels. The Congressional Reading Room will remain open to members of Congress and congressional staff members. The Carriage Entrance on the West Front Drive and the Southeast Door will be available for persons with disabilities. All building exits will be available for use in the event of an emergency. Normal access to the Great Hall and all other sections of the Jefferson Building will resume on Saturday, Sept. 29. In both instances, signs will be posted outside the Library’s Jefferson, Adams and Madison buildings informing readers of the closing and directing them on the best way to enter the Jefferson Building. Once in the Jefferson Building, signs will direct staff and readers to the reading rooms they wish to use. We regret any inconvenience that this may cause our visitors and researchers.
