September 18, 2008 Thomas Jefferson Building Closed to Public Sept. 26

The Great Hall, all exhibitions and the Library Shop within the Thomas Jefferson Building of the Library of Congress will be closed all day, Friday, Sept. 26, 2008, to the public. No visitors will be allowed in the Jefferson Building; however, Reading Rooms will operate normally for researchers. Researchers who enter the Jefferson Building via the Madison Building and Adams Building tunnels, will be directed by signs to the Asian, African and Middle Eastern, and European Reading Rooms via the Second Street elevators. Access will be available to persons with disabilities via the Southeast entrance or via the tunnels from Adams or Madison, or via the designated parking provided on the Second Street lot. Additionally, researchers will be directed through the Hispanic Reading Room to the European Reading Room; and will exit the same way. Researchers will be directed to enter and exit through Room 140 to the Asian Reading Room. Researchers to the African and Middle Eastern Reading Room will enter and exit through LJ 230 (Northeast Curtain) on the Second St. side; and will exit the same way. Researchers may not exit through the Northwest Pavilion and Curtain, nor via the normal entrance on First Street side. All building exits will be available for use in the event of an emergency. Normal access to the Great Hall and all other sections of the Jefferson building will resume on Saturday, Sept. 27. We regret any inconvenience that this may cause our visitors and researchers.
