The snowstorms in February may have derailed the Library of Congress salute to Valentine’s Day and the annual “Love Poems” reading—but it’s never too late for love poems.

Poets Heddy Reid and Margaret Mackinnon will read their poems and those by other poets in the rescheduled event at noon on Friday, March 12, in the Mary Pickford Theater on the third floor of the James Madison Building, 101 Independence Ave. S.E., Washington, D.C.

“It’s Never Too Late for Love” is the 16th annual reading of love poems in the Library’s Poetry at Noon series. The event is free and open to the public; no tickets or reservations are needed.

Reid is a longtime resident of Washington, D.C. She is the author of the chapbook “A Far Cry” (2007). Her poems have appeared in many publications including Alimentum Journal, Yankee Magazine and Sun and Moon. Reid has worked as a freelance writer and editor specializing in health, and she has led writing workshops in Washington, D.C. and New York.

Mackinnon is from Falls Church, Va. Her work has appeared in Poetry, New England Review, Georgia Review and other journals. She completed the graduate program in creative writing at the University of Florida, and teaches writing and literature at the Academy of the Holy Cross. Mackinnon has received scholarships and fellowships from three writers’ conferences and has been awarded a residency this summer at the Vermont Studio Center.

Poetry at Noon is a popular reading series at the Library of Congress that began in 1993. For more information about poetry events and the Poetry and Literature Center, visit www.loc.gov/poetry/.
