The “Concerts from the Library of Congress” radio series continues in April with new programming on Classical WETA 90.9 FM. Hosted by veteran broadcaster and conductor Bill McGlaughlin, the 13-part series features chamber music performances recorded live in the Library's Coolidge Auditorium over the past 18 months.
Kicking off the series on Saturday, April 3, at 9 p.m. will be a vintage performance by Leonard Bernstein and the Juilliard Quartet.
Listeners can download podcasts of performances, read program notes and visit the treasure vaults of the Library’s Music Division in a special online series of companion packages created for each program. Original manuscripts and sketches by J. S. Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Copland, Gershwin and many others, as well as letters, photographs and memorabilia will be accessible via the Library’s website at www.loc.gov/radioconcerts/.
Over the past year, more than 1 million listeners nationwide tuned in to the performances featured in the series.
McGlaughlin is the creator of the Peabody Award-winning program "Saint Paul Sunday," and WFMT’s popular daily national show "Exploring Music with Bill McGlaughlin," which recently won the Dushkin Award. He has led orchestras throughout the United States, with a 12-year tenure as music director of the Kansas City Symphony.
Production partners for the Library are Victor Muenzer and Noel Morris of CD Syndications, a leading producer of classical music programming for the national market. The company is known for creative, innovative programs like "Indianapolis On-The-Air" and Center Stage from Wolf Trap, produced in association with WETA-FM.
