February 22, 2011 Jefferson Building Restrictions March 2

On Wednesday, March 2, 2011, the Great Hall, all Jefferson Building exhibitions (including the Library of Congress Experience) and Library Shop will be closed to the public until 2 p.m. for a special event. No visitors will be allowed in the Jefferson Building until 2 p.m. However all reading rooms will be open for researchers for the entire day, with the exception of the Main Reading Room, which will be closed until approximately noon. Researchers with credentials will be allowed to enter the Reading Rooms within the Jefferson Building through the Southeast/2nd Street entrance or Adams and Madison building tunnels to the East side of the building beginning at 8:30 a.m. The Southeast/2nd Street entrance is accessible to persons with disabilities. Additionally, researchers must use the 2nd Street cloakroom only. The Northeast door will also be used to exclusively as an exit. Signs will be posted outside the Jefferson, Adams and Madison Buildings on the morning of February 25 informing visitors, readers and staff of the March 2 closing and directing readers to use the Southeast entrance or Madison or Adams Buildings to enter the Jefferson Building. Researchers entering the Jefferson Building via the Madison Building and Adams Building tunnels will be directed by signs to all the LJ reading rooms via the 2nd Street elevators. Researchers will be directed through the Hispanic Reading Room to enter and exit the European Reading Room. Researchers to the African and Middle Eastern Reading Room will enter and exit through LJ 230 on the 2nd street side. All building exits will be available for use in the event of an emergency. Normal access to the Jefferson building will resume on Thursday, March 3. We regret any inconvenience that this may cause the public.
