The Librarian of Congress, James H. Billington, has named Gayle Osterberg, a veteran communications specialist in Washington D.C., Director of Communications at the Library effective January 30.

“Ms. Osterberg will bring to the position of Director of Communications in-depth experience and a strong understanding of the Library’s mission of service to Congress and the public,” Dr. Billington said.

Osterberg most recently has served as the founding partner of 133 Public Affairs, which offers communications and public relations services to trade associations and non-profit organizations, and earlier in her career served 10 years in U.S. Senate leadership and committee roles.

She helped establish the Copyright Alliance, a coalition of more than 40 major companies, unions and trade associations representing the spectrum of copyright industries, and currently serves as the executive director of the Copyright Alliance’s Education Foundation.

Prior to founding 133 Public Affairs, she served for two years as vice president of corporate communications for the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA), where she managed all communications strategy and implementation related to federal and state policy and education on behalf of the organization and its member companies.

Osterberg also served as communications director for the U.S. Senate Budget Committee and the U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions after prior service as Communications Officer and spokesperson for former Sen. Don Nickles of Oklahoma.

She is a graduate of the University of Kansas.
