On Tuesday, May 8, the Great Hall, exhibitions in the Jefferson Building, Library Shop and Capitol Visitors Center will close to the public at 3 p.m. No visitors will be allowed to enter the Jefferson Building West areas after 3 p.m. except previously scheduled constituent/reserved tours. However all reading rooms will be open for researchers on a special schedule.
Researchers with current Library-issued credentials will be allowed to enter the reading rooms within the Jefferson Building through the Southeast/2nd Street entrance or Adams and Madison building tunnels to the East side of the Jefferson Building beginning at 8:30 a.m. The Northeast door of the Jefferson Building will also be used to exclusively as an exit.
All Jefferson Building reading rooms will be open for normal operating hours. Researchers entering the Jefferson Building via the Madison and Adams building tunnels will be directed by signs to all the Jefferson reading rooms via the 2nd Street elevators.
All building exits will be available for use in the event of an emergency. Normal access to the Jefferson Building will resume on Wednesday, May 9.
