March 10, 2013 Modifications of Hours for Library of Congress Building Entrances and Exits

Due to U.S. Capitol Police reductions resulting from sequestration, some building entrances and exits at the Library of Congress Capitol Complex will be closed or have reduced hours, effective Monday, March 11, 2013.

In the Thomas Jefferson Building, the following doors are affected:

• Southeast door (researcher entrance): CLOSED; will open if the First Street Carriage Entrance closes. Researchers, with credentials, may enter on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 5 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.
• Northeast door (researcher exit): Operational only from 5:30 p.m. until close.

The Jefferson Building West Main Doors and Carriage Entrance will become the primary entry points for all researchers and visitors to the Jefferson Building. The Carriage Entrance will serve as the handicapped-accessible entry point and primary exit point of the building. The public operational hours of the West Main Doors and the Carriage Entrance are not affected and will remain Monday through Saturday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

In the James Madison Memorial Building, the C Street/Yellow Core doors will be available for entry and exit between 8:30 a.m. and 2 p.m; from 2 p.m. – 9:30 p.m., these doors will be exit-only. Visitors arriving to the Library via Metro after 2 p.m. may enter the Madison Building via the Independence Avenue/Main Entrance, where operational hours will remain 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., Monday through Friday (entry after 6 p.m. is reserved for researchers, staff and those attending special programs) and 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.

All buildings' exits will be available for use in the event of an emergency. The main entrance to the John Adams Memorial Building and the Capitol Visitor Center tunnel will remain unchanged. Access among the Library of Congress buildings via tunnels will remain unchanged.
