A panel of Library curators and specialists has selected 36 college students from among nearly 800 applicants to participate in the Library’s 2015 Junior Fellows Summer Intern Program.

The program is made possible through the generosity of the late Mrs. Jefferson Patterson and the Knowledge Navigators Trust Fund with additional support provided by The Pew Charitable Trusts. A lead gift from H. F. (Gerry) Lenfest, chairman of the Library’s James Madison Council private-sector advisory group, established the Knowledge Navigators Trust Fund with major support provided by members of the Council.

During the 10-week paid internship (June 1–Aug. 7), the Junior Fellows are exposed to a broad spectrum of library work: copyright, preservation, reference, access standards, information management and digital initiatives. Their projects have been designed to increase access to the Library’s collections and raise awareness of the Library’s digital-preservation programs among members of Congress and researchers including scholars, students, teachers and the general public. In the past, Junior Fellows have identified in the course of their work hundreds of historical, literary, artistic, cinematic and musical gems representing the Library’s rich cultural, creative and intellectual assets.

Founded in 1800, the Library of Congress is the nation’s oldest federal cultural institution. The Library seeks to spark imagination and creativity and to further human understanding and wisdom by providing access to knowledge through its magnificent collections, programs, publications and exhibitions. Many of the Library’s rich resources can be accessed through its website at www.loc.gov. For more information about internships and employment at the Library, go to www.loc.gov/hr/employment/.
