A panel of Library curators and specialists has selected 38 undergraduate and graduate students from among nearly 800 applicants to participate in the Library’s 2016 Junior Fellows Summer Intern Program.

The program is made possible through the generosity of the late Mrs. Jefferson Patterson and the Knowledge Navigators Trust Fund. A lead gift from H. F. (Gerry) Lenfest, former chairman of the Library’s James Madison Council private-sector advisory group, established the Knowledge Navigators Trust Fund with major support provided by members of the council.

During the 10-week paid internship (May 31–Aug. 5), the Junior Fellows will be exposed to a broad spectrum of library work, including, collection processing, preservation, educational outreach, reference, access standards, information management, and digital initiatives. Their projects have been designed to increase access to the Library’s collections and raise awareness of the Library’s digital-preservation programs among members of Congress and researchers including scholars, students, teachers, and the general public. In the past, Junior Fellows have in the course of their work identified hundreds of historical, literary, artistic, cinematic, and musical gems representing the Library’s rich cultural, creative, and intellectual assets.

Founded in 1800, the Library of Congress is the largest library in the world. The Library seeks to spark imagination and creativity and to further human understanding and wisdom by providing access to knowledge through its magnificent collections, programs, publications and exhibitions. Many of the Library’s rich resources can be accessed through its website at loc.gov. For more information about internships and employment at the Library, visit loc.gov/hr/employment/.
