January 17, 1996 "Books & Beyond" Lecture Series To Feature Authors of Library of Congress-Related Books

On January 30, the Center for the Book will begin sponsoring "Books & Beyond," a series of talks by authors of books that have a particular relevance to the Library of Congress. "We are inviting authors of recent books that either are based on the Library's collections or that speak directly to issues of concern to the Library and its programs," said John Y. Cole, the center's director.

The talks are open to the public and will be publicized in the Library's "Gazette", "Information Bulletin" and "Calendar of Events".

The first speaker will be Jane Aiken Rosenberg, author of "The Nation's Great Library: Herbert Putnam and the Library of Congress, 1899-1939" (University of Illinois Press, 1993). Her talk will take place on Tuesday, January 30, at noon in Dining Room A on the sixth floor of the Madison Building. On Tuesday, February 13, Edith Pavese and Judith Henry will present an illustrated program and discussion about "The Millennium Book of Days" (Crown, 1995), a book that uses illustrations from the Library of Congress to celebrate--in commemorative notations and images--events of the years 1000 to 2000.
