Notes

  • -  The following information was supplied by the quiltmaker:
  • -  Quilt size: 72" x 52"
  • -  If your quilt is based on a traditional pattern or an earlier quilt, what is the name of the pattern? Where did you learn the pattern? "My mother taught me how to put the squares together. Each of my students designed his/her own square."
  • -  How did you choose the materials used in your quilt? "I chose the red, white and blue because we were making a MS quilt."
  • -  Quiltmaker's motivation: "The quilt started with a story in my classroom. We used quilt designs in math. The students wanted to make a real quilt, so each chose a symbol of MS, drew it, transferred design to cotton square, painted, quiltedà"
  • -  It took "only a few weeks to make this quilt. Students had never quilted."
  • -  What was your primary reason for entering the Lands' End contest? Do you frequently enter your quilts in competition? "Decided to enter since the quilt was already made (one never knows)."
  • -  Has being a winner in the Land's End contest made a difference in your life? Has it changed the way you look at your work as a quilt maker? "Yes, the students were very proud."
