Title
- Karma Pakshi and Two Mongol Emperors: Genesis of the Reincarnate Lamas Tradition
Summary
- A book discussion and signing for the recent release of Dr. Charles E. Manson's new work, The Second Karmapa Karma Pakshi: Tibetan Mahasiddha Dr. Manson is a librarian 'over the water', looking after the Tibetan Collections at both the Bodleian and at British Library, and Dunhuang material at British Library. His new book, "The Second Karmapa Karma Pakshi: Tibetan Mahasiddha" will be published in November 2022. The book is based on his original research into a figure of 13th-century 'medieval' Tibet, Karma Pakshi, who is credited with beginning the 'reincarnation lamas' tradition, an ecclesiastical succession tradition that led 400 years later to the governance of Tibet by the reincarnate Dalai Lamas for 300 years. Dr. Manson's research has been from Tibetan biographical and historical sources. The book has translations of Karma Pakshi's poetry/songs who travelled to preach to Mongke Khan at Karakorum and Qubilai Khan in the Xanadu area, from a recently available manuscript (2015).
