About this Item
Title
- "Mississippi Blues"
Summary
- The American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress challenged musical artists to interpret material from its unparalleled archive of ethnographic recordings of traditional folk music. Artists were asked to put their own spin on these archival treasures, and to perform them at a special showcase during the Folk Alliance International conference in Kansas City, Missouri in 2023. The showcase was recorded for this webcast. This video features Crow tribal member Cary Morin from Fort Collins, Colorado, singing "Mississippi Blues," from a field recording of singer and guitarist William Brown, recorded by Alan Lomax, Lewis Jones, and John Work in Sadie Beck's Plantation, Arkansas, in 1942. From the Library of Congress and Fisk University Mississippi Delta collection, 1941-1943, AFC 1941/002:AFS 6606 A1.
