  • The Assessing the Physical Condition of the National Collection Mellon-funded project has collected data from more than 2,500 volumes to compare the physical, chemical and optical characteristics of 500 "identical" books from five large research libraries in distinct regions of the United States for the time period 1840-1940. This event addressed the methodology of the research approach for such a complex data set, the infrastructure and platform needed for extracting active usable data, and meeting FAIR data principles.
