Notes

  • -  When Brian Pinkney was young, he often watched his father, Jerry Pinkney, at work in his studio and then drew and painted in his own "studio" - a closet fixed up with the art supplies that his father no longer used. Now Brian Pinkney is illustrator of more than two dozen children's books, writer-illustrator of three books and winner of two Caldecott Honor Awards and a Coretta Scott King Illustrators Award. He has collaborated with his wife, children's book author Andrea Davis Pinkney, on several titles including "Duke Ellington: The Piano Prince and His Orchestra," which won the 1999 Caldecott Honor Award and the 1999 Coretta Scott King Honor Award.
