- - Eric H. Cline is a professor of classics and anthropology at George Washington University, where he serves as departmental chair and director of the GWU Capitol Archaeological Institute. He is an active field archaeologist with 30 seasons of excavation and survey experience in places such as Israel, Egypt, Jordan, Cyprus and Greece. Cline is also an ancient historian and author, contributing to scholarship as author or editor of 16 books and nearly 100 articles. In "1177 B.C.: The Year Civilization Collapsed" (Princeton University Press) Cline chronicles how the civilized world of the Bronze Age came to an abrupt and cataclysmic end. He sheds light on why the brilliance and thriving economy of different cultures, from Greece and Egypt to Mesopotamia, all failed, offering causes and explanations of their collapse.
