He was drawn back to researching in library archives for his most recent book, "Brothers in Arms: The Epic Story of the 761st Tank Battalion, WWII's Forgotten Heroes." Inspired by recollections of a family friend and veteran of the battalion and working with cowriter Anthony Walton, Abdul-Jabbar interviewed surviving members to develop this recounting of the wartime experiences of courageous men.
