- - National Poetry Slam winner Elizabeth Acevedo lives in Washington, D.C. Her poetry collections are "Beastgirl & Other Myths" and "Medusa Reads La Negra's Palm." Her new book, "The Poet X" (HarperTeen), is a New York Times best-seller, a novel written in verse. Acevedo has a B.A. from George Washington University and an M.F.A. from the University of Maryland. She is a Cave Canem Fellow and has participated in the Callaloo Creative Writing Workshop.
