AACR2 Comes to Cataloger's Desktop

On April 28, the Library's Cataloging Distribution Service and the American Library Association signed a license agreement to include the Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules, Second Edition, 1988 Revision (AACR2) in Cataloger's Desktop, CDS's one-disc CD-ROM cataloging tool.

For the first time, catalogers will be able to look up a rule in AACR2 and then immediately look at how LC interprets that rule by turning to Library of Congress Rule Interpretations -- ensuring that catalogers do not miss references to critical policy refinements. AACR2 will make its appearance in Desktop in the last quarter of 1998. Be sure to pick up a detailed press release on this historic agreement at the CDS corner of the Library of Congress Booth -- No. 3222 -- at the ALA Annual Conference in Washington.

For immediate information about Cataloger's Desktop go to www.loc.gov/cds/ or contact Customer Support Unit, Cataloging Distribution Service, Library of Congress, 101 Independence Avenue S.E., Washington, DC 20540-4912. Telephone: (800) 255-3666 toll-free in U.S. or (202) 707-6100 elsewhere; fax: (202) 707-1334; e-mail: [email protected]
