    Aaron Schoen was a Second Lieutenant in the 3rd Division, 18th Field Artillery and attached to a French unit to study their methods of ballon and airplane observation. He marched into Germany with the French, and the maps document his unit's advance across Europe. The maps contain his annotations and included is a captured German map.
