Braille Book Review

Patrons now have access to richer, more detailed descriptions of new titles added to the NLS collection. NLS now uses publisher-provided book descriptions for most new titles. These longer descriptions give patrons more insight into book content, making it easier for patrons to identify titles of interest. These descriptions appear in the NLS Catalog, on BARD, and in NLS publications as ‘Provided by publisher’ and are taken verbatim from the publisher.

Braille Book Review lists braille books and magazines recently added to the NLS collection and available through a network of cooperating libraries. It also carries news of developments in services to people who are blind, visually impaired, or cannot read regular print material because of an organic physical disability. NLS publishes Braille Book Review bimonthly in braille, large print and HTML and distributes it free of charge to patrons. Braille Book Review is also available on BARD in ebraille by searching magazines by title, with individual issues available for download or for subscription. You can find more information about how to register for and use BARD in the BARD reference guide.

When possible in the HTML formats linked to below, annotations include links to the Braille and Audio Reading Download (BARD) pages from which the books can be downloaded. At this time, it is not possible to order hard-copy braille books while using Braille Book Review online. To order books via the Internet, you should check with the regional library that sends you books. Many of the libraries do have ordering options, either online or by e-mail, and many others are planning to develop such services in the near future. Even if they do not offer an electronic ordering option at present, it will be helpful for them to know that you are interested.
