New NLS Director

NLS welcomes Jason Broughton as its new Director. Broughton began his tenure on September 12, 2021. Prior to joining the Library of Congress, he was the first African American to serve as Vermont State Librarian, a position he held since 2019. He also held numerous library roles in South Carolina and Georgia, where he used his training as an educator to focus on issues such as workforce development and public outreach engagement.

Broughton earned his M.S. in Library and Information Science from the University of South Carolina, an M.S. in Public Administration from the University of South Florida, and a bachelor’s degree in Biology from Florida A&M University. As Director, he is responsible for the oversight and administration of the NLS programs including the expansion of online and digital delivery of services and the organization’s ongoing modernization efforts.
