The Thesaurus for Graphic Materials not only assists people using the Prints & Photographs Online Catalog to find terms they may wish to use in searching for a subject, genre, or format of picture, but it also assists those who index pictures to formulate and maintain indexing terms.
The table below lists labels used in term records in the Prints & Photographs Online Catalog and in the underlying data available in the downloadable TGM file [view information on the downloadable file], with a comparison to features of the downloadable file formerly available. "Postable" terms are terms that can be used in indexing; "nonpostable" terms are terms that are not used for indexing. An asterisk indicates that the field was added as of October 2007.
