If no contact sheet was available, a reference viewing copy (digital print) was made by Library staff and filed with the contact sheets. Topics include press conferences, congressional committee hearings and meetings; legislation involving the budget, health care, campaign finance reform and gun control; ethics investigations; visits to Congress from foreign leaders such as Nelson Mandela, Lech Walesa and the Dalai Lama; activities of political party organizations including the Republican National Committee and the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee; social events such as fundraisers and birthday parties; the activities of congressional organizations including the Congressional Black Caucus, the Congressional Hispanic Caucus and the Congressional Arts Caucus; swearing-in ceremonies, State of the Union addresses; celebrities including Diana Ross, Johnny Cash, Steven Spielberg, The Grateful Dead, Mary Tyler Moore and others; memorial services for Congress members; presidential inaugurations, and the annual Congressional Baseball Game and other sports events.

Images of congressional leaders such as Newt Gingrich, Tom Foley, Tom Daschle and Mitch McConnell are especially frequent. Members of the U.S. Capitol Police, the Architect of the Capitol, cafeteria staff, House Folding Room employees, and congressional committee staff are also depicted. Some images of presidents and first ladies and vice presidents including Lady Bird Johnson, Richard Nixon, Betty Ford, Jimmy and Roslyn Carter, Ronald and Nancy Reagan, H.W. and Barbara Bush, Dan Quayle, Bill and Hillary Clinton, and Al and Tipper Gore can be found. Some portraits of lobbyists and staff of national and local organizations are included.

However, there is some coverage of political campaigns in places such as Georgia, California and Massachusetts and many images of the national Democratic and Republican conventions. Also included are screenshots of numerous political television advertisements for congressional candidates.

545			a	Roll Call was founded in 1955 by Sid Yudain as a community newspaper focusing on the U.S. Congress and Capitol Hill. In 1986, Yudain sold the newspaper to Arthur Leavitt Jr. who expanded its staff and increased its publication frequency. The paper was sold again in 1993 to The Economist Group. A subsidiary of this company, CQ Roll Call, has published Roll Call since 2009.
545			a	The Roll Call portion of the CQ Roll Call Photograph Collection dates from the time when the Roll Call was owned by Leavitt and The Economist Group (1988-2000). Most of the pre-1988 material was returned to the photographers. Some images from the 1950s-1970s can be found in LOT 14092 and LOT 14080. Material after March 2000 was retained by The Economist Group.
