Ex-slave guest of president in Capital. Washington, D.C. Feb. 17--The thrill of a lifetime came to William Andrew Johnson, 79-year-old ex-slave of President Andrew Jackson [i.e. Johnson], today as he arrived in the Capital to be the guest of President Roosevelt--at the expense of the Chief Executive. After an hour of reminiscing of the stirring Reconstruction Days of American History with President Roosevelt, Johnson was taken on a sightseeing trip accompanied by a Secret Service guard. He is shown at the Capitol in this picture. He comes from Knoxville, Tenn.
