A gala was held on Friday night in the Library’s Coolidge Auditorium welcoming authors, members of Congress, and other figures such as President Bush to the literary celebrations.

Attendance: 75,000

Featured authors, illustrators, poets, and storytellers included:

  • Entertainer and children’s book author Julie Andrews
  • Television journalist Bob Schieffer
  • Players from the NBA and WNBA
  • Best selling author James Patterson

Firsts:

  • NBF moved to the National Mall
  • Children and Teens Pavilion is introduced
  • The Pavilion of States, highlighting state reading programs and local libraries expands to have participants from all states and US territories
