Program National Book Festival


“The Library of Congress National Book Festival once again has given book lovers of all ages the chance to meet, interact with and be inspired by their favorite authors – more authors than at any time in its history”

This year's theme was part of the larger Library of Congress “Celebration of the Book” in 2012 and 2013. The celebration encompassed several events, an exhibition, and the 2012 National Book Festival theme.

Attendance: 200,000

Featured authors, illustrators, poets, and storytellers included:

  • Biographers Walter Issacson, Douglas Brinkley, Robert Caro
  • Young-adult stars John Green, Lois Lowry, and Jeff Kinney
  • Pulitzer winner Jeffry Eugenides
  • Representative John Lewis

  • “A Book the Shaped Me,” writing contest invited 5th and 6th graders to reflect on a book that impacted their lives.
  • The National Student Poet program awarded five outstanding high school poets.
