Program Veterans History Project

Step 4: Access

It may take at least 12 months before your veteran’s descriptive record appears online, and that record may not include digitized collection material such as their interview. However, once processed, every collection is accessible in person by appointment at the Library of Congress in the American Folklife Center Reading Room.

The Veterans History Project at the Library of Congress makes its collections accessible online. Here you can search the VHP collection or explore materials through our curated presentations and guides. You will be able to watch or listen to the full interviews of tens of thousands of veterans; browse thousands of photographs; and read first-hand accounts via unpublished diaries, journals and memoirs.

If the summary service record of the veteran’s collection you want to see does not include a link to their interview or other materials, contact us to schedule an appointment to view the collection at the Library of Congress.
