Notice: As the Library of Congress gradually begins to reopen its Reading Rooms for research, we are putting safety first with new procedures and practices that protect everyone’s heath. Confirmed appointments are required for entry into Library facilities, and everyone must follow the health and safety protocols established by the Library, in consultation with public health professionals. Most of these protocols are mandatory, regardless of vaccination status.
Starting on July 12, 2021, the Asian Division will provide access by appointment only between the hours of 9:30 am – 12:30 pm and 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm, Monday - Friday. Please submit an Ask a Librarian form or call (202) 707-5426 to schedule an appointment. More.

Fellowship Information

Due to limited researcher access to the services of the Library of Congress since March 2020, the fellowship will not accept new applications for 2021. Instead, recipients of the 2020 fellowship are expected to conduct research trips and to use the collections of the Asian Reading Room and the Library of Congress upon the Library’s reopening to the researchers. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Visit this page in September 2021 for information on the 2022 FTM Fellowship announcement.

The Asian Division Florence Tan Moeson Research Fellowship Program is made possible by the generous donation of Florence Tan Moeson, who served as a cataloger at the Library of Congress for 43 years until she retired in 2001. Mrs. Moeson passed away on November 15, 2008.

The purpose of the fellowship is to provide individuals with the opportunity to pursue research in the area of Asian studies, using the unparalleled collections of the Asian Division and the Library of Congress in Washington, DC. The fellowships are for a minimum of five business days of research at the Library of Congress. The grants may vary from $300 to $3,000 and are to be used to cover travel to and from Washington, overnight accommodations, as well as other research expenses. In a typical year, all research trips need to be completed before September 15. Graduate students, independent scholars, researchers, and librarians with a need for fellowship support are especially encouraged to apply.
