The Law Library subscribes to a broad range of databases and eResources that provide legal and legislative information for the U.S. and around the globe. Note that some commercial databases are available only to researchers while on-site in a Library of Congress Reading Room.

LLMC Digital Includes historical U.S. federal and state primary law materials from the judicial, legislative, and executive branches of government (court opinions, statutes, and administrative materials) and historical secondary sources such as treatises, broadside, and government publications. Contains indigenous law materials, international legal materials, and select foreign law materials. On-site Only
Nexis Uni Comprehensive coverage of US federal and state case law, statutes and regulations. Includes secondary source materials such as law reviews, newspapers, treatises and patent information. Also includes Shepard’s Citations Service. On-site Only
Westlaw Patron Access (external link) Comprehensive coverage of US federal and state case law, statutes, and regulations. Includes select secondary sources such as American Law Reports,  legal encyclopedias, treatises, law review articles, 50 state surveys, legal forms, and Restatements. Also includes the citator KeyCite.

OYEZ (external link) A multimedia database about the United States Supreme Court which includes audio files of oral arguments, abstracts of key constitutional cases, and information on Supreme Court justices. Free Access
ProQuest Indian Claims Insight Contains docket materials for all Indian Claims Commission cases, as well as cases that preceded and followed the existence of the Commission (1946-1978). The materials include docket books, expert testimony and proceeding transcripts, briefs, and decisions of the Indian Claims Commission, as well as ICC Journals, treaties, maps, and a legislative history for the Indian Claims Commission Act of 1946. ProQuest Supreme Court Insight Provides access to U.S. Supreme Court records and briefs, opinions, dockets, and joint appendices from 1933 to present, with oral arguments coverage starting in 1955. On-site Only

World Trials Library (HeinOnline) Contains select court documents and trial transcripts from famous cases, monographs analyzing the cases, and biographies of select trial lawyers. Covers 1600s to the present. On-site Only

Foreign Legal Gazette Guide (external link) Online tool for locating foreign legal gazettes available in the Law Library of Congress collection in print, microform, CD-ROM, or digitized format via our onsite-only Stacks repository or open access digital collection. This collection tool is continually updated and currently captures information for approximately half of the 240 jurisdictions for which the Law Library of Congress collects foreign legal gazettes. NATLEX (external link) Contains over 55,000 records covering over 170 countries and territories on national labour, social security and related human rights legislation. Free Access

Legal Periodicals and Indexes

Most of the databases listed below are journal indexes that may provide the full-text of a journal article. Indexes list bibliographic information about the article such as: article title, author, journal name, volume, issue, page number, date and subject headings or descriptors.

If the full-text of an article does not appear in your results, check to see if there is a button next to the bibliographic information. If so, use this reference tool to help locate a copy of the article, either in print (through the Online Catalog or electronically (by pointing you to an alternative online full-text database).
