Research Center Prints and Photographs Reading Room

Request for Access to Unprocessed or Off-site Materials

The Prints & Photographs Reading Room does not use the "Request This Item" button in the Library of Congress catalog. Materials located on site can be requested by call slip; no online forms are necessary. However, materials stored off site and unprocessed materials must be requested in advance. Pay special attention to the "Access Advisory" field in P&P records and use this form for off-site and unprocessed item requests.

For collection materials that are stored off site or have not been physically prepared for service, you must provide advance notice in order to ensure materials are available to view when you visit.

  • LOTs stored off site with designation (FM) These must be requested 5 business days in advance of when you wish to view the material.
  • Unprocessed materials (generally "Unprocessed" is in the call number) These have not been physically prepared for service and require 14 days advance notice. In addition to making sure the material is on site, a staff member must be available to work with you, at least initially. For further information, see Access To Unprocessed Collections.

Note - Obtaining quality copies through the Library's Duplication Services is a separate step that takes additional time)
