Search By Issuing Body or Title

United States. Census Office (from 1790 to 1900)
Add the number of the census and year to locate a specific census, for example:

U.S. Census Bureau (after 1900) -- Author/Creator Browse
United States. Bureau of the Census. (after 1900 to the present) -- Author/Creator Browse
United States. Bureau of the Census. -- Expert Search Results

Note there have been numerous variations in the entry of this information in the catalog record over this time period. Beginning with the Census of 1910, the main entry for the Census of Population is the name/number of the Census with the corporate author being "United States. Bureau of the Census."

Beginning in 1950, census publications are entered under the title and date:

Starting in 1970 a separate title, "Census of population and housing," was also produced.
