DATABASES

Following are some of the more specialized business databases that would be helpful for researching this topic. The list does include a few business databases of a more general nature, which could also be helpful. With the exception of the Ministry of Commerce, People's Republic of China, which offers free public access, these databases are accessible to researchers on-site at the Library of Congress but may also be available through your local public or university libraries.

It includes primary news sources (full-text), macroeconomic forecasts and analysis in English as well as native languages. Arranged by country, this resource also includes business and political news – approximately 9,000 publications of data, research and news from sources such as the Economist Intelligence Unit and ViewsWire, as well as other local and global sources.

EIU Market Indicators & Forecasts

Provides global market indicators and forecasts running from 1990 and forecasting out five years. It delivers economic, demographic, consumption and industry data on 60 major markets worldwide. Data includes: population, urbanization, health, personal income, income distribution, consumer spending, consumer markets, and labor costs, market size, FDI, and other macroeconomic data as well as EIU's collection of unique operational and financial risk indicators.

GlobalCapital descends directly from EuroWeek ("the voice of the markets"), which has been covering new issues in primary markets for 26 years. Provides a flexible global news and data service that easily accesses relevant articles on this topic.

IMF eLibrary

Direct access to the IMF's periodicals, books, working papers and studies. Information and perspective are provided on macroeconomics, globalization, development, trade and aid, technical assistance, demographics, emerging markets, policy advice covering both business and economic topics.

International Country Risk Guide (ICRG)

ICRG method uses roughly 30 metrics to assess political, financial, and economic risk for 140 developed, emerging, and frontier markets. Each report contains 27 statistical tables detailing past and future trends for GDP growth, inflation, the fiscal and current accounts, external debt, debt servicing, liquidity, and exchange rate stability. In this database, each risk variable is assigned a numerical value. A higher number indicates a lower level or risk; the lower the number, the higher level of risk.
Political risk assessments are made by the firm's analysts based on their expertise and analysis of a range of data. The financial and economic risk assessments are derived from a variety of published sources and in-house modeling.
