Please be aware that letters sent to any Library of Congress office will be delayed because of current security procedures which mandate that all mail (U.S. Postal Service and private carrier) sent to the Library be screened off-site prior to arrival on Capitol Hill. This process can result in substantial delay in the delivery time for these letters. If you (or someone who can act on your behalf) have access to the Internet, we are able to provide more timely responses through our online Ask-A-Librarian service: Ask Business and Ask Science/Technology.
Before submitting your request, we recommend that you review our Reference Correspondence Policy.

The primary mission of the Library of Congress is to serve Members of
the Congress and thereafter, the needs of the government, other libraries,
and members of the public, universities, and learned societies.
The Library of Congress encourages correspondents to use local library
resources first. Public, state, academic, and special libraries are often
able to respond more quickly and thoroughly than we and are better able
to identify and respond to specific and ongoing research needs. Please note that the
scope of our services does not include:
SCOPE:
The Science, Technology & Business Division will provide a reasonable
amount of information about materials in the collections of the
Library relating to the sciences, technology, business, and economics. Please indicate
resources already consulted when requesting information about a wide-ranging
subject.
COPIES:
Library of Congress Duplication Services will not reproduce
copyrighted material without written permission from the current copyright
claimant. Securing such permission is the patron's responsibility. (see Copyright Office for more information)
Please note: All requests, regardless of the form in which they are received (postal service, email, phone, etc.)
are treated equally.
