Science and Business Reading Room Location: The Science
and Business Reading Room is located on the 5th floor in the John Adams
Building. The entrance to the
building is on 2nd Street. Take the elevators to the fifth floor; as you exit the elevator lobby, turn to your right. You will see a sign that directs you to the left into the Science and Business Reading Room.

Reading Room Requirements:
Library of Congress Reader Registration: All researchers must have a Reader Identification Card in order to use the Library’s Reading Rooms and materials.

The Science Reference Collection: The Science Reference Collection is located in the Reading Room. You may use the Science Reference Collection without submitting a request. Reference
works may not be taken from the Reading Room. Among the many types of resources are:
- Indexes, abstracts, and full text journal articles (both print and online products)
- Selected online books
- Directories, dictionaries, and encyclopedias
- Bibliographies and research guides prepared by Science Reference Librarians
- Important and frequently used works in Science and Technology
Access and Requesting Materials: Patron access to materials in the closed stacks is primarily by means of the online public catalog and through submission of requests. (Please note that requests of materials from off-site may take a day or more to fulfill.) The Library of Congress online catalog can be accessed at anytime from anywhere with internet access. The catalog is primarily bibliographic in function. With few exceptions, only members of Congress and their staffs may check out materials from of the Library of Congress. Access to full-text books and journals is generally limited to on-site usage.
Workstations, Wi-Fi, and Printing: Public workstations are provided with networked printers and are located throughout the reading room. These workstations give researchers access to the Library’s website, digital resources, the online catalog of Library holdings, subscription electronic databases, and to the Internet.
Free Wi-Fi access is available in the Reading Room. Researchers are encouraged to bring their own electronic devices for access to our electronic resources. Each research desk in the Science and Business Reading room has a power source for your device(s).
Printers, photocopiers, scanners, and microform workstations are provided in the Reading Room, providing the ability to print or save resources in digital formats. Researchers are encouraged to bring USB drives to save their materials.

Library of Congress Duplication Services: If there are no copyright restrictions, Duplications Services supplies photocopies of items in the Library’s collections. You must provide specific citations (title, author, number of pages, and LC call number) for materials you wish copied. Fees vary based on duplication type and quality. |
