Notes
- - Significance: Richard King and Mifflin Kenedy came to South Texas in the 1850s and built their fortunes in the steamboat business. King and Kenedy traded internationally down the Rio Grande River before becoming involved in ranching in the years after the American Civil War. Together they owned most of the Wild Horse Desert. In 1882, Kenedy built his ranch headquarters on the highest sand dune. The headquarters of the ranch resembled a steamboat and later became known as the Old Kenedy House. The Old Kenedy House served as the headquarters of the Kenedy Ranch until 1926.
