Summary
- On August 2, 1776, members of the Second Continental Congress began signing the Declaration of Independence. Exactly 245 years later, 20 federal agencies gathered to sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) in support of activities marking the nation's 250th anniversary in 2026. Organized by Terry Brown, director of federal partnerships for America 205, the signing was held in the Great Hall of the Thomas Jefferson Building of the Library of Congress. Opening remarks were provided by the U.S. Semiquincentennial Commission's Lynn Forney Young, Librarian of Congress Carla Hayden and Commission executive director Frank Giordano.
