CYAC subject headings now available online
July 17, 2021
Over 11,500 CYAC subject headings have now been added to the online Children’s Subject Authority file, in cooperation with the Policy, Training, and Cooperative Programs Division. Users are able to find the headings in ClassificationWeb and id.loc.gov. These headings were previously only available in a card file, so the CYAC Program is excited that these subject headings are now available to the entire community. The new headings were automatically generated and currently contain a MARC 667 field: Machine-derived authority record. The CYAC team will be reviewing each heading and adding relevant scope notes. Once a heading has been updated, the MARC 005 date stamp in the authority record will be updated, and the MARC 667 field will be deleted. .

Classification News!
June 4, 2014
If you classify juvenile fiction using Library of Congress Classification, you know how crowded PZ7 has become. To address this, PZ7.1 is being established for authors whose first work of children’s or young adult fiction will be published in 2015 or beyond. Check our Procedures for Shelflisting CYAC Material, as well as the Policy and Standard Division’s official announcement.
CYAC About to Turn 50!
May 27, 2014
CYAC has begun preliminary preparations to celebrate the program’s 50th anniversary. In November of 1965, the Library of Congress initiated the Annotated Card Program, commonly called the AC Program, to provide subject cataloging designed especially for librarians working with children’s collections in school and public libraries, providing a more appropriate subject analysis of juvenile titles and offering easier subject access to the materials than standard Library of Congress cataloging. Watch this space for more on what the celebration will entail and how you might become involved!
