BFProd at the Library of Congress
The Library of Congress has begun its migration to BIBFRAME for creation of cataloging data. That is a first step to replace MARC in the Library’s catalog and will be gradual over the next years.
This migration is called BFProd (BIBFRAME in Production).
BFProd has three important components:
- Ability to move easily between MARC and BIBFRAME in recognition that both inside and outside the Library of Congress a dual environment will persist for some time
- Adjustments to the MARC environment that will facilitate movement of data and the new concept of a "Modern MARC" record that is derived from a BIBFRAME description
- Training and bringing in Library of Congress cataloging staff to the BIBFRAME environment
